“Friggers”
In the 1830’s the Nailsea Glassworks was one of the four largest in the country. Today, Nailsea is famous for a certain style of glass but most of it was never made commercially in Nailsea. The glassworkers created these items after their quota of window glass had been completed. They made them for their own use or for local sale. They were known as “friggers” and shown here are two typical examples.

You can also visit the Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Brockway, Nailsea where they have on display many artefacts relating to the history of Nailsea (including Nailsea Glass). |
